Peach World Returns
Update: This post, first published Sunday, has been updated to include responses from the Peach World editorial team recieved later that evening.
A second issue of Peach World, a satirical fake newspaper, surfaced this weekend with dual imagined futures under Trump or Harris.
First spotted in July at Krog St. Market with an issue dated July 22, 2028, or four years into the future, it painted a Trump-led dystopia in which Supreme Court Justice Marjorie Taylor Greene paves the way for a Trump third term and a forced birth detention facility named “Camp Miracle” opens in Sandy Springs.
There’s lots of satire these days, I contribute to RAD Atlanta Zine, but the 4-page broadsheet showed a large degree of effort.
At first I thought it was an end times religious tract.
The new issue is again a 4-page broadsheet, but with 2 pages each devoted to a Harris or Trump future, and printed upside down in comparison to the other.
It’s also dated only two years ahead on Oct. 31, 2026. It now lists a website, https://peachworldnews.com, that lets you “choose your future” and see digital versions of the articles.
The lead Harris article is titled “Harris Signs Reproductive Rights Bill Into Law” with the reverse being “Trump Signs National Abortion Ban Into Law.”
There are even alternate bill names:
The “Full Reproductive Empowerment and Equality (FREE) Act” vs. the “Babies are Integral to Replenishing the Terrific Heartland (BIRTH) Act.”
There’s cat lady vs. dog fighting images and contrasting weather forecasts: a temperate 78 and sunny and clear under Harris, a cloudy and rainy 93, in October, under Trump.
A “Take Action” page on the website asks to Check Your Registration with a link to the Georgia My Voter Page, Vote Early with a link to an Advanced Voting Location finder, and “Distribute Some Papers” with an email address to contact if you want to aid in circulation.
I first spotted this new issue in a Georgia Voice newspaper box at the corner of Elizabeth St. and Austin Ave. I also spotted a single issue near Estoria 97 Saturday night.
In response to some questions sent to the info@ email address, the Peach World editorial team sent the following response “from the future.”
Peach World News is not part of any campaign. We are a ragtag band of civically-minded Georgians (from the future, of course).
We have had only 2 issues so far (the first from 2028; the second from 2026, with alternate universe futures). Our numbers are few and we are self-funded! But we hope to continue to produce issues.
We hope to reach all types of voters. We know that, back in 2024, people weren’t always thinking long-term about the implications of political decisions. And that some people didn’t think there was much of a difference between the two candidates for president. In sending our newspapers back to 2024 at a critical moment, we want people to really see, feel, and understand (in a visceral way) the impact of their voting decisions (and the differences between the two candidates and their administrations). We want to remind people that they have some political agency to influence the future. Also, we know that, in 2024, politics and political messaging could seem exhausting, lacking in substance, and a bit depressing. So we wanted to send back something tangible, substantive, different, and fun. And hopefully make people laugh.
Because we are a local crew, we only report from Georgia and not any other swing states.
Papers are being distributed throughout neighborhoods inside Atlanta, in the suburbs outside Atlanta (for example, Roswell, Smyrna, and others), and in Athens.
As a get-out-the-vote tool, I don’t know if the use of localized, Onion-style satire is as effective as postcards or phone banking but it can certainly quench a creative thirst. And may appeal to the otherwise jaded.
